palo verde U.S.|ˈpæləʊ ˈvɛrdeɪ| [Amer. Sp., = ‘green tree’.] A name used for several small trees or shrubs belonging to the genera Cercidium or Parkinsonia of the family Leguminosæ, native to south-western North America and distinguished by green bark and racemes of yellow flowers. Also attrib.
