palo de hierro U.S.|ˈpæləʊ deɪ hɪˈɛərəʊ| Also palo fier(r)o. [Amer. Sp., = ‘iron tree’.] The Sonora or desert ironwood, Olneya tesota, of the family Leguminosæ, which bears racemes of white flowers; also used as a name for other trees producing particularly hard wood, or the wood itself.
