A radio device that emits a sound when activated by a telephone call, used to contact a person carrying it.
1968Guardian 10 Apr. 7/3 There are already..in this country devices called radio pagers. You carry in your pocket the pager, which is linked by radio connection to your telephone. When the telephone rings, the pager blips, and you can answer the call by speaking into the pager. As things stand the pager is illegal. 1973Sci. Amer.
