‖ Oxyuris Zool.|ɒksɪˈ(j)ʊərɪs| Pl. oxyˈurides |-ɪdiːz|. [mod.L. (Rudolphi, 1809), f. Gr. ὀξυ- sharp + οὐρά tail.] A genus of small thread-worms of the family Ascaridæ, inhabiting the rectum of various animals; O. vermicularis is frequent in that of man, especially of children.
