ˈoxychlor-, ˈoxychloro- Chem. Containing oxygen and chlorine, as oxychlor-ether, a liquid, CH2Cl.CH(OH)(OC2H5), obtained by the action of water at high temperature on bichlor ether. So † oxyˈchlorate of potash, old name of Potassium chlorate, KClO3. † oxyˈchloric acid, old name of Perchloric acid, HClO4. oxyˈchloride, a combination of oxygen and chlorine with another element, as phosphorus oxychloride, POCl3; also, a compound of a metallic chloride with the oxide of the same metal. Also called oxyˈchloruret. † acetic oxychloride = chloracetic acid.
