intr. To ‘lash out’ excessively (see lash v.1 5); to break out into excess (in conduct, or esp. in language); to go beyond bounds, be extravagant; to exaggerate. Cf. outlash.
1579Tomson Calvin's Serm. Tim. 143/1 The worde..signifieth moderation and gravitie, as when men doe not overlashe and give them selves to all wickednesse. a1656Ussher Ann. vi. (1658) 257 Who..thinks,..in this reckoning, he did overlash. 1701J. Sage Vind.
