†1. intr. To flourish exceedingly. Obs.
1597Golding De Mornay xix. 302 They that worship..God,..dwelling in Paradise alike ouerflorishing green.
2. trans. To cover with blossom or verdure.
1601Shakes. Twel. N. iii. iv. 404 Vertue is beauty, but the beauteous euill Are empty trunkes, ore-flourish'd by the deuill. 1861Lytton & Fane Tannhäuser 114 A wither'd staff o'erflourish'd with green leaves.
†3. To embellish too greatly; to set forth with too much embellishment. Obs.
1703Collier Ess. Mor. Subj. ii. 66 As they are likely to over-flourish their own case, so their flattery is hardest to be discovered. 1716Gentl.
