ouguiya, n.|uːˈgiːyə| Also ougiya. [a. Fr., ad. Mauritanian Arab. ūgiyya (Arab. ūqiyya, ad. Gr. οὐγκία ounce n.1).] The principal monetary unit in Mauritania, consisting of 5 khoums, which replaced the French franc in 1973; also, a note or coin of this value.
