‖ orthopnœa Path.|ɔːθəʊˈpniːə| Also 8 -pnea. [L. (Pliny), a. Gr. ὀρθόπνοια in same sense, f. ὀρθόπνο-ος breathing upright, f. ὀρθό-ς upright + πνοή breathing, breath, πνέ-ειν to breathe.] A form of asthma or dyspnœa in which breathing is possible only in an upright position.
