optotype|ˈɒptəʊtaɪp| [f. opto- + type. First formed as mod.L. optotypus (H. Snellen 1875, in Klin. Monatsbl. f. Augenheilkunde XIII. 479).] A type or letter of definite size used for testing acuteness of vision; a test-type.
