Preparation.
1546Langley Pol. Virg. De Invent. ii. v. 44 a, The sunne rising is the begynning of al affaires..the night is a time of counselling & apparaunce. 1594Hooker Eccl. Pol. v. (1793) II. 41 To go about the building of an house to the God of heaven with no other apparance, than if his end were to rear up a kitchen.
