ophiuran, a. and n. Zool.|ɒfɪˈ(j)ʊərən| [f. mod.L. Ophiūra, f. Gr. ὄϕις serpent + οὐρά tail, in reference to the long snake-like arms.] a. adj. Belonging to the genus Ophiura, family Ophiuridæ, or class Ophiuroidea of Echinoderms, comprising starfishes with well-defined slender arms (simple or branched) covered with plates or spines. b. n. A starfish of this genus, family, or class; a brittle-star or sand-star. So ˈophiure (= b); ophiˈurid a. and n.; ophiˈuroid a. and n.
