1902Proc. R. Soc. LXX. 74 ‘Sporozoites’, ‘blasts’, ‘ookinetes’, ‘schizonts’, ‘amphionts’, and ‘sporonts’—terms which have their place in schemes dealing with the general morphology and life-history of the group Sporozoa, but are not, as experience shows, well suited for immediate use in describing and referring to the stages of the malaria parasite. 1968Trans. R. Soc. Trop. Med. & Hygiene LXII. 462 The tapering anterior end is truncated, not pointed, and is surmounted by a prominent dense ring, staining red. This is present in all vermicular oökinetes. 1977T. I. Storer et al. Elem. Zool. (ed. 4) xv. 262/2 This becomes a worm-like oökinete that penetrates the gut wall. 1988Jrnl. Parasitol. LXXIV. 433/1 Ookinetes in refractory and susceptible mosquitoes were morphologically similar to those observed in previous studies of this and other malaria species. |
