omphalo-mesenteric, a. Anat.|ˌɒmfələʊmɛsənˈtɛrɪk| [f. omphalo- + mesenteric.] Pertaining to, or connecting, the navel and the mesentery. Applied to the first blood-vessels (veins and arteries) developed in the embryo of vertebrates, which pass from the umbilical vesicle into the body of the embryo; also to a duct representing the part of the yolk-sac within the body-cavity when persistent..after birth (also called vitelline duct).
