-ogen|ədʒɛn| a suffix f. -o + -gen, q.v. In Biochem. appended to the names, usu. terminating in -in, of biologically active compounds, esp. proteins, to form the names of their inactive precursors: as chymotrypsinogen, fibrinogen, pepsinogen, renninogen.
