off-diagonal, a. (n.) Math.|ɒfdaɪˈægənəl, ɔː-| [f. off- 4 b, off prep. + diagonal n.] Applied to an element of a square matrix that is not on the principal diagonal (from top left to bottom right). Also as n., such an element.
