obmutescence|ɒbmjuːˈtɛsəns| [f. L. obmūtēsc-ĕre to become dumb or mute (f. ob- (ob- 1 b) + mūtēscĕre to grow mute) + -ence.] A becoming (wilfully) mute, speechless, or dumb; the action of obstinately remaining mute.
