Sterry Hunt has briefly described the various localities where these rocks occur, and proposed for them the designation of Norian, after Norite (from Norway), a name early used for a labradorite rock in Norway.1888[see Labradorian n. and a.].1987N.Z. Jrnl. Geol. & Geophysics XXX. 389/1 The bivalves include Halobia lilliei Marwick of Oretian age (Late Triassic; Late Karnian–Early Norian).1985Sci. Amer. Aug. 66/3 The occurrence of the phytosaur genera Belodon and Mystriosuchus in the Huai Hin Lat formation shows that it must be roughly contemporaneous with formations in Germany that contain the same genera; the latter formations are assigned to a particular part of the late Triassic, the part called the Norian stage.
