Of, pertaining to, or designating the second of the three stages constituting the Upper Triassic in Europe. Also absol.

Sterry Hunt has briefly described the various localities where these rocks occur, and proposed for them the designation of Norian, after Norite (from Norway), a name early used for a labradorite rock in Norway. 1888[see Labradorian n. and a.]. 1987N.Z. Aug. 66/3 The occurrence of the phytosaur genera Belodon and Mystriosuchus in the Huai Hin Lat formation shows that it must be roughly contemporaneous with formations in Germany that contain the same genera; the latter formations are assigned to a particular part of the late Triassic, the part called the Norian stage. |
