Nobel prize, one of five prizes, established by the will of Alfred Nobel, which are awarded annually to the person or persons adjudged by Swedish learned societies to have done the most significant recent work in physics, chemistry, medicine, and literature, and to the person or persons adjudged by the Norwegian parliament to have rendered the greatest service to the cause of peace.
