The protein which constitutes the links between the outer microtubule doublets of the axonemes of eukaryotic cells.
1970R. E. Stephens in Biol. Bull. CXXXIX. 438 The protein represents about 2{pcnt} of the total axonemal protein and hence less than 1{pcnt} of the total flagellar protein. The molecular weight by SDS gel electrophoresis is 165,000 {pm} 10{pcnt}. The term ‘nexin’ is proposed for this protein, derived from the Latin nexus, a tie binding together members of a group. 1973Jrnl. Cell Biol.
