Neisseria, f. the name of Albert Ludwig Siegmund Neisser (1855–1916), German dermatologist and bacteriologist: see -ia1.] Any bacterium of the genus Neisseria of aerobic, Gram-negative, parasitic or pathogenic diplococci found on mammalian mucous membranes.
