naproxen, n. Pharm.|næˈprɒksɛn| [f. naphthyl n. + propionic a. + oxy- + -en, after tamoxifen n., etc.] An anti-inflammatory analgesic substance, C14H14O3 , given orally (freq. as the sodium salt) as a pain-killer and in the treatment of some forms of arthritis; (+)-2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acid.
