Mytilenæan, Mytilenean, Mytilenian, n. and a.|mɪtɪˈliːnɪən, mɪtɪlɛˈniːən| [f. L. Mytilenæus, Gr. Μυτιληναῖος Mytilenæan.] A. n. A native or inhabitant of Mytilene, the ancient city and modern capital of the Aegean island of Lesbos. B. adj. Of or pertaining to Mytilene or its inhabitants. The form Μιτυληναῖος (L. Mitylenæus) also is attested by ancient sources, and is sometimes followed by modern writers in the form Mitylen(a)ean. The name of the modern city is frequently transliterated Mitilini.
