A mixture of albumins (varying between species) extracted from skeletal muscle plasma; crystalline substances obtained from such mixtures have been designated myogen A, myogen B, myogen I, myogen II, etc.
1896Jrnl. Chem. Soc. LXX. ii. 48 The proteids in the muscle plasma are three in number, namely paramyosinogen.., myosinogen or myogen 77 to 83 per cent. of the total proteïd, and traces of serum albumin. 1939Biochem. Jrnl. XXXIII. 1342 Baranowski..has recently obtained from rabbit muscle extract a crystalline protein, which he has named myogen A. 1970R. E. Scopes in E. J. Briskey et al. Physiol. & Biochem. of Muscle as Food II. xxii. 472 It is now clear that..myogen A (when prepared from rabbit muscle) consisted of cocrystallized α-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (α-GPDH) and aldolase... It has since been shown that pig myogen A is a different enzyme, lactate dehydrogenase. Ibid., Myogens I and II from fish sarcoplasms..have been crystallised;..neither is related to the myogen A of rabbit. |
