Munich|ˈmjuːnɪk| [G. München.] The name of the capital of Bavaria used with reference to a meeting of representatives of Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy on 29 September 1938, when (by the Munich Agreement) the Sudetenland of N. Czechoslovakia was ceded to Germany; also transf. as a typical example of dishonourable appeasement. Hence Muniˈcheer, ˈMunichite, advocates of such an appeasement policy.
