A tree, Colophospermum mopane, of the family Leguminosæ, native to areas of low rainfall in southern Africa, and distinguished by rough, flaking, grey or brown bark, racemes of small, pale green flowers, and leaves formed of a pair of triangular leaflets joined at the base, which fold together during periods of intense heat.
