An instructional technique of Zen Buddhism consisting of rapid dialogue of questions and answers between master and pupil.

[a. It. mondo world: early usages in English are clearly derived from the use of the word in Italian film (see below), but the later adjectival and adverbial uses show the apparent influence of Sp. mondo pure, unadulterated, and perh. of the slightly earlier Spanish borrowing mucho much, very (see *mucho a. (and adv.).)
The phrase mondo bizarro reflects the influences of both languages: Italian in the noun phrase, Spanish in the later adjective phrase.]
A. n. [After the 1961 documentary film Mondo cane (It., lit. ‘world for a dog’, the English title being A Dog's Life), which inspired numerous (often similarly titled) imitations.]
1. Used attrib. and (rarely) absol. to designate a film reminiscent or imitative of Mondo cane, esp. in its depiction of eccentric forms of human behaviour.
