Östberg of Stockholm; app. from L. mītis mild, taken in the sense of mild a. 8 b.] mitis casting: a method of increasing the fluidity of molten iron (so as to render it possible to prevent the occlusion of air in the casting) by adding a minute quantity of aluminium to the charge in the crucible; also, a casting produced by this process.
