1. Petrol. A term proposed in 1867 by Vogelsang for the microscopic acicular particles contained in the glassy portions of felspar, hornblende, etc. (Cf. microlite 2.)

2. Archæol. A small stone tool with a sharpened edge used with a haft, characteristic of Mesolithic cultures.
