metencephalon Anat.|mɛtɛnˈsɛfəlɒn| Also meˈtencephal. [mod.L., f. Gr. µετά after + ἐγκέϕαλ-ος brain, f. ἐν in + κεϕαλ-ή head.] a. In Huxley's use: The cerebellum with the pons Varolii. b. ‘The posterior division of the third, or posterior primary, cerebral vesicle. It corresponds with the medulla oblongata, the fourth ventricle, and the auditory nerve’ (Syd. Soc. Lex. 1890).
