A deciduous, coniferous tree of the genus so called, belonging to the family Pinaceæ and known only from fossil remains until the single living species, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, was discovered in the Szechuan province of China in 1941; also called dawn redwood or water fir. Also attrib.
