‖ Mesozoa, n. pl. Zool.|mɛsəʊˈzəʊə| [mod.L., f. Gr. µέσο-ς middle + ζῷα pl. of ζῷον animal.] Van Beneden's name for forms intermediate in structure between the Protozoa and the Metazoa. (The Orthonectids and Dicyemids, which he placed in this division, are now recognized as Metazoa, but it is believed that true Mesozoa exist.) Also sing. mesoˈzoon, one of the mesozoa.
