mesotherapy, n. Brit. |ˌmɛsə(ʊ)ˈθɛrəpi|, U.S. |ˌmɛzoʊˈθɛrəpi| [‹ meso- comb. form + therapy n., after French mésothérapie (M. Pistor 1958, in Presse médicale 4 June 100/3), so called with allusion to the mesodermal (rather than ectodermal) origin of the dermis and underlying tissues.] A system of alternative medicine in which multiple tiny injections of a mixture of pharmaceutical or other substances are made into the layer of connective tissue underlying the skin; a cosmetic therapy of this kind, claiming to promote the loss of subcutaneous fat and cellulite.
