mercurochrome Pharm. Chiefly U.S.|mɜːˈkjʊərəʊkrəʊm| [f. Mercury n. + -o + Gr. χρῶµ-α colour.] A mercury derivative, C20H8O6Br2HgNa2, of fluorescein which forms greenish iridescent scales, dissolves in water to give a red solution, and is used as a weak antiseptic. (Orig. given a wider meaning: see quot. 1919.)
