melograph|ˈmɛləʊgrɑːf, -æ-| [mod. f. Gr. µέλο-ς song + -graph.] An apparatus for automatically recording music played on the organ or pianoforte. The name was first given to an invention of Euler in the 18th c. (see Grove Dict. Mus. I. 499); subsequently to an electrical contrivance invented by J. Carpentier in 1887.
