mastigopod, n. and a.|ˈmæstɪgəpɒd| [ad. mod.L. Mastigopoda neut. pl. (lit. ‘whip-footed’ animals), f. Gr. µαστῑγ-, µάστιξ whip + ποδ-, πούς foot.] A. n. Huxley's name for a protozoan furnished with cilia or flagella. B. adj. Furnished with cilia or flagella, or both (Cent. Dict. 1890).
