mastigoneme, n. Biol.|ˈmæstɪgəʊˌniːm| [a. F. mastigonème (G. Deflandre 1934, in Compt. Rend. CXCVIII. 498), f. Gr. µάστιξ, µαστιγο- whip + νῆµα thread.] A hair-like structure attached to the surface of the flagellum in some unicellular eukaryotes, usually as one of a row. Cf. *flimmer n.2
