‖ Mamamouchi The mock-Turkish title pretended to have been conferred by the Sultan upon M. Jourdain, in Molière's play Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, iv. iii. Hence occas. used for: A pompous-sounding title; also, one assuming such a title; a ridiculous pretender to elevated dignity.
