Malacca|məˈlækə| The name of a town and district on the Malay peninsula in the S.E. of Asia; used attrib. in some names of plants and vegetable products. Malacca apple = Malay apple (see Malay a.); Malacca bean, the fruit of the Semecarpus Anacardium or marking-nut of India (see also Molucca); Malacca cane (also simply Malacca), a walking-cane of a rich brown colour, often clouded or mottled, made of the stem of the palm Calamus Scipionum.
