Brit. |magˌniːzɪəʊˈhɔːnblɛnd|, U.S. |mægˌnizioʊˈhɔrnˌblɛnd| [‹ magnesium n. + -o- connective + hornblende n.] A hornblende belonging to the series Ca2(Mg,Fe+2)4Al(Si7Al)O22(OH,F)2 in which the proportion of magnesium is equal to or greater than that of iron, occurring naturally as green or greenish-black prismatic crystals and in massive form.
