[ad. L. Maccabæ-us, Gr. Μακκαβαῖος, the epithet of the Jewish patriot Judas.

A supporter or successor of Judas Maccabæus, the leader of a religious revolt against Antiochus IV, 175–164 b.c., as recorded in the Books of the Maccabees.
