Lygus, n. Ent.|ˈlaɪgəs| [mod.L. Lygus (coined in Ger. in C. W. Hahn Wanzenartigen Insecten (1831) I. 28), ad. Gr. λύγος chaste-tree, withy.] A genus of plant-sucking heteropteran insects (family Miridae or Lygaeidae), some of which carry plant disease viruses; (also lygus) an insect of this genus; also lygus bug.
