anomaloscope Optics.|əˈnɒmələʊskəʊp| [ad. G. anomaloskop, f. anomalo- + -scope.] An apparatus invented by W. A. Nagel (1870–1911) for measuring abnormality in colour vision. Apparatus of this kind was first announced by Nagel in 1898 but he did not at first call it an ‘Anomaloskop’.
1923L. C. Martin Colour x. 150 Nagel's anomaloscope is a simple instrument similar to a direct-vision spectroscope, in which a yellow may be matched by a mixture of red and green. The brightness of the yellow and the ratio of red to green are indicated by the readings on two micrometer heads. The numerical divergences from the normal readings are taken as arbitrary measures of the ‘anomaly’. 1929W. D. Wright Re-det. Trichr.
