† zoonic, a. Chem. Obs.|zəʊˈɒnɪk| [ad. F. zoönique (Berthollet), irreg. f. Gr. ζῷον animal + -ique, -ic.] Applied to a supposed peculiar acid obtained from animal substances, afterwards shown to be impure acetic acid. Hence † ˈzoonate [-ate4], a salt of this acid.
