In feudal Turkey, the estate or fiefdom of a zaim.
1807T. Thornton Present State of Turkey v. 166 During the continuance of the war the ziamets and timars are granted to those among the volunteers, who in hopes of obtaining such rewards have signalized their valour. 1819T. Hope Anastasius II. xiii. 324 The Spahees, or horse soldiers..often only holding their Zeeameth or Timar from some grandee, as the wages of domestic service. 1877J. Baker Turkey in Europe viii. 157 A Ziamet comprised upwards of 500 acres... Timars and Ziamets were eagerly sought by both soldiers and officers, and became prizes to incite to valour and gallant deeds. 1902J. B. Bury in Cambr. Mod. Hist.
