[Of obscure origin.
If the sense be ‘lappet’, the word might be a dim. of F. loque rag, though this has not been found earlier than the 15th c. (Cotgr. 1611 has loquette). A dim. of lock n.1 would yield an admissible sense, but a hybrid formation of this kind would be unusual at so early a period. It is not easy to see how the word can be identified with locket.]
