logit, n. Statistics.|ˈlɒgɪt| [Acronym f. logarithmic unit.] The natural logarithm of the quotient of a probability and its complement. Usu. attrib., esp. in logit analysis, a form of regression analysis which makes use of this function.
1944J. Berkson in Jrnl. Amer. Statistical Assoc. XXXIX. 361 Instead of the observations qi we deal with their logits li = ln(pi/qi) . [Note] I use this term for ln p/q following Bliss, who called the analogous function which is linear on x for the normal curve ‘probit’. 1965Biometrics XXI. 731 (heading) Examples of fitting the generalised logit-normal distribution. 1967Biometrika LIV. 181 The use of logits in the quantal bioassay problem is briefly explored with particular reference to the asymptotic results of Hitchcock regarding the bias of the estimators. 1977Lancet 15 Jan. 107/2 The statistical significance levels of the rate trends were assessed by a logit analysis. 1988Amer.
