▪ I. yogh|jɒg, -x| Also ȝok, ȝoch, etc. (see quots.). [See Mod. Lang. Review VI. (1911) 441 seqq., VII. (1912) 520–1.] The name of the ME. letter ȝ: see G, Y. The use of L. jugum ‘joke’ to designate this letter (see quot. a 1440) points to the prevalence of the English form ȝok.
