Gr. λιµναία, fem. of λιµναῖος, f. λίµνη pool, marsh.] A genus of the family Limnæidæ or pond-snails, typical of the sub-family Limnæinæ; a pond-snail of this genus. Hence limˈnæan, a gasteropod of the genus Limnæa; limˈnæid (also limneid), a gasteropod of the family Limnæidæ; a pond-snail; limˈnæine a., pertaining to the sub-family Limnæinæ (Cent. Dict.).
