a. Chiefly in Bengal: a theatrical entertainment or song recital staged during a religious festival.
b. More generally, a pilgrimage or procession; a festival.

In a later age these musical dramas came to be called yâtras, even after they were detached from the temple precincts, and associated with the secular stage.
